Micheline: A French Bistro with a Story on the Move
Micheline, a French Bistro from Eleven Madison Park alum and Scarsdale native Jonathan Aubrey, invites you to experience classic bistro fare with a modern touch. Enjoy delicious food, an exclusively French wine list, and expertly crafted cocktails, all paired with genuine and attentive hospitality. Whether it's a family dinner, after-work drinks, or a romantic date night at the bar, Micheline is the perfect destination.
Our restaurant's name, Micheline, is a carefully chosen reflection of our French inspiration and our location in Scarsdale. We sought a French name that was both easily pronounceable and evocative of our unique setting. Given our proximity to the Scarsdale Metro-North station, a name connected to transportation felt particularly fitting.
The Micheline, a rubber-tired train developed in France in the 1930s by various rail companies and Michelin, provided the perfect solution. It elegantly captures the French essence of our bistro while subtly referencing our location near the train station.
Furthermore, our custom logo beautifully blends the iconic Micheline train car with the familiar Metro-North rail car, visually reinforcing this connection and creating a memorable brand identity.
About Jonathan Aubrey
From the bustling streets of Paris to the kitchens of Michelin-starred restaurants, Jonathan Aubrey's journey has been a fascinating blend of global experiences and a deep-rooted passion for hospitality. Born to a French mother and British father, Jonathan spent his early childhood in Scarsdale before moving to Paris. Despite living abroad, he maintained strong ties to New York, returning to Scarsdale regularly to visit his father.
It was a few years after returning to the US and earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, that Jonathan pursued his culinary passion. He studied culinary arts at the French Culinary Institute in Soho, which led him to the kitchens of Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne.
Ultimately, Jonathan found his calling in the dining room. He joined the team at Eleven Madison Park where he was a Maître D for 2 years. During his time there, the restaurant earned its #1 ranking on the Worlds 50 Best and consistently kept three Michelin stars. He went on to open Nur as General Manager, earning a two-star New York Times review. His last position in NYC was as part of Gabe Stulman's Happy Cooking Hospitality Group, where he managed Simon & The Whale, George Washington Bar, and Studio at the Freehand Hotel.
After a hiatus during the pandemic, Jonathan returned to Scarsdale, recognizing an opportunity to bring his unique blend of culinary expertise and genuine hospitality to the suburbs. He meticulously renovated the former Metro Diner space, creating a restaurant that embodies New York and Parisian vibes, aesthetics, cuisine, and the service he is passionate about. Life has come full circle: having left Scarsdale at the age of three, Jonathan now resides there with his wife and two sons, deeply entrenched in the community and excited to continue building its vibrant culinary scene.
